"The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well."

About Samantha Shoemaker, Patient Coordinator and Office Manager

Samantha began her career in the health field studying physical therapy, which led her to her true passion as a yoga instructor. However, it was after getting to know Dr. Maren during her family’s time in Michigan that she discovered functional medicine. And (as she puts it): “my life was forever changed.”

Samantha received a yoga instructor certification from Beaumont’s School of Yoga Therapy, and has been teaching corporate, private, and group classes since 2014. Her practice ran the gamut from offering truck driver’s yoga to working in the Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit. This experience running her own practice and as a caregiver, along with her passion for healthy living makes her ideally suited for her role as office manager and patient coordinator.

Samantha takes care of all our administrative work (and then some!) while helping coordinate efforts between our team, new and established patients, vendors, labs, contractors, etc. She loves her job, and excels at keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes while creating a welcoming environment for our patients.

For Samantha, working within this field is deeply personal as a close family member was a victim of the opioid epidemic and she has also watched many other people in her life struggle with their health while never being guided to treat the root cause of their complaints. Thus, she has become a tireless advocate for helping others finding better routes for healing and care through integrative functional medicine.

In her spare time she is likely practicing or teaching yoga, hiking with her dog and husband, exploring nature, spending time in Northern Michigan, checking out the newest restaurant in town, or her favorite hobby…trying out a new recipe at home in Bloomfield, Michigan.

My Philosophy

I believe in clean thoughts, clean food, and clean medicine.

I believe it’s the everyday things we do that can bring the simpler aspects of mindfulness to life.

I believe when you learn to listen to your body intuitively, you can heal.

I believe that quality healthcare begins with a quality team of integrative providers.

I believe that low-toxic living is achievable in a toxic world.

I believe that everything we do is infused with the energy with which we do it.

I believe that everyone is entitled to feel great, not just “okay”.

I believe we should never underestimate the power of a deep breath.

I believe in functional medicine, yoga, and healthy food but I also believe in a big, organic ice cream sundae once in a while.

I believe that we should never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.
